Today marks the 15th anniversary of the passing of celebrated Canadian artist, Bill Reid, whose art offers visitors and locals alike a window in to the vibrant culture of the Northwest Coast. His iconic piece The Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe has been displayed at our International Departures area for almost 20 years now, and is a testament to the enduring quality of his creations.
YVR is proud to be one of the founding donors of the Bill Reid Gallery and we want to take the opportunity to express our appreciation for all of his work - not just the pieces that grace our terminal. A number of his classic pieces are still available for purchase, and anybody wishing to visit the gallery can find more info here.
Reid created more than 1500 works of art, but he wasn't just an artist. He was a writer, poet, broadcaster, music-lover and cultural ambassador.
Today we celebrate Bill Reid, a true Canadian whose work has inspired many, and reflects British Columbia's culture and history.
