Hello/Bonjour! My name is Anna and I’m one of the YVR School Program Tour Guides for 2013.
Every year YVR welcomes hundreds of Grade 5 students from across the Lower Mainland to take a tour of North America’s #1 airport. In its fifth year, this fun and informational program highlights the importance of YVR in our community and encourages students to see the airport as more than just a place to take off from. In addition to topics including sustainability, First Nations art, and security procedures, this year we’ve incorporated a highlight from Take-Off Fridays: the paper airplane competition.
In order to tell the students all about our amazing airport, I’ve spent the last week immersing myself in everything YVR. Returning tour guide Jake has been showing me the ropes, and we’ve spent much of our time in the terminal, interacting with lots of cool travellers along the way. Here is a picture of us practicing a portion of our script at “The Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe” for a few unsuspecting travelers.
I also got the chance to take an airside tour with YVR firefighter Steve, visiting everything from the South Terminal to Taxiway Lima to the notorious NavCanada “Golf Ball” on a gorgeous sunny day. I even got to ride in the fire truck, fulfilling every kid’s (or kid-at-heart’s) dream.
Jake and I are looking forward to meeting all you Grade 5s for another great year with the YVR School Tour Program!
