B.C Cherry Pie - In China!

It’s one of my favourite times of the year: when B.C. cherries hit the produce aisle of local grocery stores. But did you know that our sweet, red fruit is also satisfying the cravings of many in China?

Thanks to a new trade agreement between Canada and China, the doors are now wide open for B.C. cherry growers to send high volumes of their product to the number one cherry market in the world.

China has many customers who want high-quality produce and YVR and its partner airlines are able to get B.C.’s best from tree to table in about 24 hours, supporting thousands of local jobs and millions of dollars in expected new revenue.

Many of our airlines are increasing their cargo service throughout the summer months to accommodate the export of B.C. cherries alone.

China Southern Airlines, which is celebrating its third anniversary at YVR, will increase its summer cargo schedule from three weekly flights to five, thereby providing Canada with more than 400 tonnes per week of air cargo space to China.

Now, that’s a lot of cherries!

Read more about how YVR plays a key role in the supply chain that connects B.C. food with global markets.
