The historic Burberry brand has finally touched down at YVR, joining the award-winning group of World Duty Free retail outlets located in the International Departures Terminal, post-security.
Burberry is more than just another store, with roots stretching back to the mid-19th century, when a young draper's apprentice named Thomas Burberry opened up shop in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England and started selling outdoor attire. As the clothing became more popular worldwide, the company was hired to modify the officer's standard field garments for contemporary warfare. The result was the now-iconic trench coat. In later years, it would develop the now world-famous tartan pattern and expand its reach globally, earning Royal Warrants and notoriety all over the globe for high-quality garments.
Burberry also dabbled in aviation at one point. When A.E. Clouston and Betty Kirby-Green attempted and succeeded in making the fastest flying time to South Africa in 1937, they were sponsored by Burberry and had outfits specifically designed for the journey.
YVR is very excited to have this instantly recognizable and reputable brand join the already amazing collection of retail outlets from World Duty Free. Next time you are travelling abroad from YVR, stop by and treat yourself to something from Burberry, located just beside Milestones restaurant adjacent to Gate D53.
