This month marks a significant milestone for one of our highest-flying airline partners as we honour 30 years of Cathay Pacific operating at YVR.
Cathay Pacific made Vancouver its first North American destination 30 years ago and it has never looked back, adding additional flights, another destination and expanding its top-notch in-terminal and in-flight service options for passengers.
The first Cathay flight from Hong Kong International Airport touched down on May 1, 1983, and was the first non-stop flight between the two cities. Demand for the service increased dramatically over the following decades, with flights going from twice a week to twice a day between YVR and HKG in 2013.
Cathay not only takes care of its passengers in the air, but provides a luxury lounge in-terminal at YVR that underwent a $1 million overhaul in 2005.
YVR is proud to have Cathay Pacific as a partner. The airline's sterling commitment to providing only the best passenger experience reflects positively on YVR every day, and for that we are thankful.
A couple of fun contests are underway to honour the 30-year milestone. Cathay is inviting fans to share their personal memories or images of the airline on its Canadian Facebook page. Eligible entries will have a chance to win tickets to Hong Kong. YVR's contest offers entrants a chance to win an authentic 51” model of a Cathay Pacific aircraft. Answer the trivia questions in the comments section of these previous posts and look out for future questions for more chances to win.
Here’s to another 30 years!
