We’ve seen a lot of cute kids at YVR recently as they head off on exciting summer vacations or visit the airport for our fun (and free) Take-off Fridays.
But we were delighted to spot even more of them recently at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, where a gaggle of little chefs-to-be gathered to get an up close look at some of the city’s best chefs in action.
The students were participating in the Vancouver Airport Authority-sponsored program, Growing Chefs, whereby youngsters from across the Lower Mainland work with real chefs to learn how to grow and cook their own vegetables. The program consists of seven classroom visits by chefs over a three-and-a-half month period.
Recently, these students had the special treat of eating at Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel after a quick lesson by Chef Graham and his team from Globe@YVR, known for its 100-Mile Menu.
(Did you know that Fairmont Vancouver Airport has 34 bee colonies happily residing each summer at McDonald Beach Park, located just five minutes from the hotel right here on YVR's Sea Island home? One million honeybees living in 34 beehives produce about 2,400 pounds of honey for the hotel.)
Vancouver Airport Authority is proud to continue its sponsorship of the Growing Chefs program, and wishes all little chefs-to-be a fun summer of cooking for mom and dad!
