Destination Profile: Ski Destinations

If you’re a fan of the slopes, the year is broken up into only two seasons: Ski and other. After waiting 7 long months, Ski season has finally returned and YVR offers plenty of regularly scheduled flights to some of B.C.’s top ski destinations.

Big White
Kelowna, YLW

Located within half an hour’s drive from Kelowna, Big White Ski Resort is known for its champagne powder snow (and maybe an après ski celebratory flute?). The resort offers 118 trails and western Canada's largest resort night skiing area, making it one of the most popular choices in the Interior for skiing and boarding families. Despite its close proximity to Kelowna, you never have to leave the village, which offers accommodation, restaurants, bars, nightlife and shopping.

Sun Peaks
Kamloops, YKA

Sun Peaks ski resort in Kamloops lives up to its name by averaging over 2000 hours of sun per year. When you’re not on the sunny slopes of the Interior’s largest ski resort, boutique style shops, cafes and gourmet restaurants create a European-styled village nestled at the base of three mountains which make up the resort.

Mount Washington
Courtney/Comox, YQQ

Mount Washington is in deep… deep snow that is! With an average annual snow fall of 11 meters (36 feet!), this large Northern Vancouver Island mountain has a small community feel. While there is plenty to see and do for skiers and boarders, shopping and dining options are limited compared to other ski resorts/villages (although look for planned growth in the future!). If you’re not looking to get out on the slopes, you can always kick back and relax in a cozy ski lodge taking in the beauty of this truly spectacular area.

Whistler/Blackcomb
Whistler

This world renowned ski destination almost needs no introduction.  As host city of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Whistler B.C. is a winter-sport mecca for many. Both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain offer 8000 acres of skiable terrain and Whistler’s lift capacity can move 65,507 skiers and boarders an hour!

With a large village offering everything from spas to shops, dining, accommodation, concerts and festivals – there is always something happening!

Weekly Flights from YVR: The Whistler/Skylinx scheduled bus service offers 8 daily schedules departures from YVR during peak season.
