Want to see how YVR prepares for a blustery day like today? Check out this snow operations video that Live@YVR’s Jaeger Mah made last year while he was living at the airport.
While we don’t often see the white stuff on the ground – we’re always prepared for days like today when it does land. YVR begins preparations in late summer by reviewing and revising plans, preparing specialized equipment, ordering supplies and briefing staff and contractors. These preparations culminate in full training exercises on the airport’s runways and taxiways.
During a snow storm, YVR has an impressive fleet out on the airfield working to keep the runways and aprons clear. You can find up to 80 pieces of equipment working, including five OshKosh H-Series snow blowers, which can blow snow far as 150 feet off of the airport’s runways and taxiways, and four Oshkosh P-Series/MB 4600 ‘all-in-one’ trucks, each capable of ploughing and sweeping a 26-foot wide path!
While our team is working hard to keep everyone safe and on their way, delays can sometimes occur. Luckily, we have holiday entertainment in the terminal to keep you entertained as well as lots of retailers to allow you to finish your Holiday shopping. Happy travels!
