Throwback Thursday: Vancouver Airport Becomes Vancouver International Airport

YVR has a long, storied history going back more than 80 years. It all began when a snub from famed aviator Charles Lindbergh inspired the city to set aside some land for a proper airport. Since then, YVR has seen many milestones, including a very important one in 1947 when international air service to and from then-Vancouver Airport began to take place. Thus Vancouver Airport became Vancouver International Airport. Today, our routes have expanded to crisscross continents across the globe. With the A-B Connector Project currently underway and other exciting expansions planned, the appearance of YVR will continue to change and grow, but the spirit of a community airport will endure.
