The airport community joined together to drive, chip and put their way around the Quilchena Golf and Country Club in an event to raise funds for a great cause – YVR for Kids.
Since its inception in the 1980’s, over $3.2 million has been raised for children’s charities and this year was no different. With live and silent auctions along with a gala at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel, more than $200,000 went toward deserving kids in our local communities.
This annual gathering first began when law enforcement officers at Vancouver International Airport participated in a golf tournament for fun. When an airport employee lost their daughter Elise to cancer, the airport community banded together and changed the tournament into a golf challenge and auction to raise funds. The proceeds of the charity tournament were donated in Elise’s memory, and the YVR for Kids Golf Tournament was born.
Some of the local charities that have benefited from YVR for Kids include Canucks Place Children’s Hospice, Air Canada Dreams Take Flight, Hopeair, Rubina Hope for Kids, The Richmond Christmas Fund and Canucks for Kids.
