Vancouver International Airport’s home is Sea Island; a 1,524 hectare island located at the mouth of the Fraser river connecting Vancouver and Richmond.  Vancouver Airport Authority manages and develops Vancouver International Airport under the provisions of a long-term lease with the Government of Canada.

The Airport Authority manages about 1,340 hectares of land, some of which is available for development. And with more land available than any other airport on the West Coast of North America, we are well poised to support YVR’s future growth.

Though commercially focused, we take a sustainable approach to all development here on Sea Island. Long-term planning and sustainable growth for our communities and environment lead all of our commercial activities.

Public consultation with our surrounding communities is rooted in decisions we make about YVR’s development and growth. In 2005 we began an extensive consultation process to create the YVR: Your Airport 2027 Master Plan. The 20 Year Master Plan is a medium-term roadmap, outlining how the Airport Authority will accommodate growth in passenger, aircraft and cargo volumes. All while we meet the needs of our stakeholders and communities to achieve our gateway strategy and sustainability objectives while supporting the airport's longer-term viability.

Included in the 2027 Master Plan is a Land Use Plan that shows you the plans for Sea Island’s future. 

Land Management

Effectively managing our lands supports both our sustainability and long-term goals. Land_Management_Guidelines apply to airside and non-airside lands, help guide our undeveloped lands and applies to new leases and agreements.
