YVR celebrates arrival of new seasonal non-stop Vancouver - Munich route
May 16, 2013
Richmond, B.C. (May 16, 2013): Vancouver Airport Authority today welcomed Lufthansa’s new daily seasonal non-stop service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Munich Airport (MUC), the only non-stop route from Vancouver to Munich. Starting today, the service will operate until October 5, 2013 and will join Lufthansa’s well-performing Vancouver-Frankfurt route.
A primary hub connecting more than 285 destinations, Munich is one of Vancouver’s top ten European markets for passengers departing and arriving from YVR. It is estimated that the Vancouver-Munich route will create 131 new jobs and will contribute 8.7 million dollars to B.C.’s GDP during its initial six month daily service, while also bringing nearly 15,000 visitors to B.C. The new service will also provide opportunities for local businesses and organizations to directly reach customers, suppliers and investors in Europe.
The new Vancouver-Munich route marks Lufhtansa’s 30 years of service to Vancouver International Airport and bolsters YVR’s trans-Atlantic offerings for travellers and businesses. During the summer peak period, YVR’s current European services operate at over 90 per cent passenger capacity.
