Russ Baker Way Repaving - September 6 Project Update

September 06, 2013

Repaving continues on Russ Baker Way, but the end is in sight! Thank you for patiently navigating the detours and delays resulting from this project. In spite of some changes to the schedule due to rainy weather, crews are still aiming for a completion date of the second week of September.

Upcoming Activity (WEATHER DEPENDENT)
Dinsmore Bridge closures originally scheduled for Thursday, September 5 have been delayed to Monday, September 9 due to rainy weather. Beginning at approximately 10 p.m. on the 9th and ending at approximately 2 a.m. on the 10th, paving at the intersection of Gilbert Road and Russ Baker Way will require the bridge’s closure. Gilbert Road from Lansdowne to Russ Baker Way will also be closed to all traffic. Drivers will be redirected to use the No.2 Rd Bridge via Westminster Highway. Flag crews will staff the Gilbert Road/Lansdowne intersection to answer questions and direct drivers accordingly.  A message board will also be erected at Westminster Hwy and Gilbert Road to advise drivers of the Dinsmore Bridge closure.

Final paving at the intersection of Russ Baker Way and Miller Road intersection is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11 between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. (evening shift). Access to the Delta Hotel, BCIT Campus and SunLife offices during these hours will be available via Cessna Drive.  Drivers heading west on Bridgeport Road bridge and north on Russ Baker Way for Vancouver will also be detoured to Cessna Drive.

Line painting will take place during the evening shifts on Wednesday September 11 through Friday September 13. Final work will also continue next week on the new Russ Baker Way pedestrian and cycling pathway. Once final painting has dried, detour signs will be removed and Russ Baker Way will be back to business-as-usual as early as Saturday, September 14, but with a much improved road surface connecting drivers between Richmond, YVR and Vancouver.

Reminders
• Work will be performed during the day and night, but traffic lanes will remain open at all times, as follows:
o Two lanes will operate in each direction during the day (6 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
o One lane will operate in each direction at night (8 p.m. – 6 a.m.)
• To ensure your safety and the safety of paving crews, please observe posted speed limits and be sure to maintain your distance from the vehicle in front of you.
• Please remember to leave extra time if using Russ Baker Way to get to and from your destination.  Check the City of Richmond’s traffic cameras for real-time reports before you go.

Thanks again for your patience as we work to safely complete this project as soon as possible.
