Growth at YVR Reflected in New Brand and New Facilities

Vancouver Airport Authority today unveiled the new face of YVR, an updated visual identity reflecting Vancouver International Airport's new facilities, unique West Coast style and growing reputation as a global gateway.

"YVR has undergone a dramatic evolution in the past 15 years, developing into one of the world's leading airports, and earning a reputation for exemplary customer service," said Larry Berg, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority, who unveiled the new look at a community event today. "As we prepare to expand our International Terminal and welcome more passengers, this new look reflects what makes our airport unique and how we are represented to the world, in 2007 and beyond."

The launch of YVR's new visual identity comes as the airport prepares to open the first phase of a $420-million expansion to the International Terminal later this month. Like the new terminal wing, which will feature four new gates and an aquarium showcasing indigenous marine life of the Pacific West Coast, the new logo provides an exciting, modern face for B.C.'s premier global gateway.

The introduction of the new logo also coincides with additional development projects in and around the airport, including the construction of the YVR portion of the Canada Line and the Link Building, a central passenger hub that will connect the International and Domestic terminals, slated for completion by summer 2007. With a growing number of passengers and changes within the airline industry, YVR continues to expand and adapt to meet the needs of the industry and its customers.

To prepare for this update to its visual identity, the Airport Authority undertook a comprehensive review of YVR's existing brand. Research revealed that YVR enjoys an outstanding reputation amongst travellers, community leaders, business partners and employees. Specifically, YVR's exemplary customer service; its creation of a sense of place for visitors; innovation in passenger services; and its role as an international gateway were identified as areas of strength.

Key elements of the new logo include a West Coast colour palette reflecting the land, sea and sky themes of the airport's modern facilities and architectural design, an arc element that references flight, and a simple new tagline - "Beyond, Every Day" - to describe YVR's approach to its business. Designed by Hangar 18 Creative Group, the new logo will be reflected in everything from airport signage and uniforms, to vehicles and publications.

"From customer service to airport operations, we strive to 'go beyond' in every aspect of our business, every day," noted Berg. "It's this unique YVR experience that is captured by our new logo."
